Wednesday evening programs will begin this fall on Wednesday, September 10 with a kick-off meal beginning at 5:30 pm. Everyone is welcome! Hour-long programs for children age 3 through adult will begin at 6:30 pm each week. This fall, adults will have the option of continuing the discipleship study video series featuring Ray Vander Laan or participating in a book study led by Tom Lauer.
In the discipleship study, we will be exploring the idea of discipleship through the lens of its original definition in Scripture. What did it mean to be a disciple of Jesus back then, and what does that mean for us today? A disciple is not just someone who is “saved”—who believes in Jesus privately. A disciple is someone who is actively participating in the mission; someone who is willing to walk as Jesus walked. In Western culture, it’s the living like Jesus did part that really feels like a challenge.
In the book study, we will read and discuss books written by C.S. Lewis. The first will be The Abolition of Man. In it, Lewis reflects on education, society, and nature. He considers how best to teach our children---and ourselves---not merely reading and writing, but also a sense of morality. If you have never read, or only ever read a few C.S. Lewis books, be assured they are well worth reading, even multiple times. Please let Tom know if you’re interested in joining this group.
